Million participants in Open Day
Open Day this weekend, more than a million visitors are drawn, left the organization Sunday evenings to know “on the basis of a first assessment”. That is the same as last year.
Open monuments Day is actually not a day but the whole weekend: Saturday and Sunday. The theme this year was ‘art and craft’ about the demise of old crafts.
Of the 5,000 monuments in the whole country, the doors were opened.
In many country houses, museums and castles were craftsmen in their work that usually had to do with the monument in which it was shown.
Town Hall Delft
One of the highlights this year was the town hall of Delft, with 10,000 visitors and also the Hague knight’s Hall, and First Room where a total of 8,000 people were around the site. In Breda were 4,500 people to the Large Church and 3,000 went along with the domed prison. In Amsterdam drew the Old Church more than 6.500 people and the Beurs van Berlage a small 6.000.
Municipalities where the majority of people one or more monuments visited were this weekend in Amsterdam (38.500), Dordrecht (31.000) and Bergen op Zoom (30.000).
The organization calls it striking that on this 29th edition of Open Monument day, more tourists, more young people and more families with young children attracted.
Next year, the ‘heritage open days’ for the 30th time. For that edition -on 10 and 11 september – the organization is working on a special program with special monuments.
