“Strange Things” star Millie Bobby Brown clapped back at haters during her MTV Films & TV Awards acceptance speech, after the news that she had deleted her Twitter account.
Millie Bobby Brown doesn’t let the haters her down!
On the 2018 MTV Film & TV Awards, which aired Monday from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, the ‘Strange Things’ star took home the award for Best Performance in a Show for her role as the Elf on the popular Netflix series. During her acceptance speech, the 14-year-old actress apparently called for the people who created and shared homophobic memes of her in the past weeks, causing her to deactivate her Twitter account.
“Thank you for my support and to all my fans,” Brown, who was unable to attend the awards show in person by a kneecap injury, said in a video. “I wish I could be there with you all to receive this award, but unfortunately, I’m sitting here at home in Atlanta recovering from a sport injury and I am at the doctor to rest. I want to let you know how grateful I am for those who support me. It is no secret that landing the role of the Elf in “Strange Things” has changed my life in the most incredible ways. It offered me the opportunity to work with remarkable people, especially the Duffers, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Iain Paterson and Netflix [and] all members of the cast. So I share this award with you.”

“Finally, since I know that there are many young people watching this, and even the adults too, who would probably use the reminder that I learned — if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything,” she continued. “There should be no room in this world for bullying, and I’m not going to tolerate it and neither any of you. If you need a reminder of how you are worthy of and to rise above the hate, message me on Instagram.”
Although they don’t make more use of Twitter, Brown is currently still active on Instagram, with comments turned off. They proved last Friday that they skip the awards show on the “doctor’s orders.”
“I’ve actually never had a broken bone, except for now,” she said. “I’ve split my kneecap, so of the doctor, he told me to rest and that means that I will not be present at the MTV Awards this weekend.”
“I hope Holes [Matarazzo] and Caleb [McLaughlin], Finn [Wolfhard], Sadie [Sink] and Noah [Schnapp] have the best time and I think they are so sweet,” she added. “So I wish you all the best and I am sending my good fortune with you, and I will be there in spirit.”

in addition to Brown’s award, “Strange Things” is also nominated for Best On-Screen Team, Best Musical Moment and Best Show. Her co-star, Noah Schnapp, won Most Frightened Performance for his role as Byers earlier in the night.
Ahead of the awards show, AND spoke with Brown’s “Strange Things” co-star, Schnapp, Sadie Sink and Finn Wolfhard on the red carpet, where she opened up about her “gnarly” injury.
“She’s gonna get better very fast” and the Sink is revealed. “Unfortunately, she has pain in her knee. I think they slipped, it was not on the set, but she has broken with her knee. But she is getting better and better.”
“She is in high spirits,” Wolfhard added. “It is a gnarly picture.”
