Miley Cyrus ‘ parents Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus posted photos of their daughter on her wedding day. Miley recently confirmed that she and longtime boyfriend Liam Hemsworth tied the knot in a secret wedding in their home in Franklin, Tennessee.
Miley Cyrus’ mother has inadvertently led to a social debate in the media about white privilege in the criminal justice system after posing for a picture in front of what seems to be a number of huge bags of marijuana.
The problem began when her husband, singer Billy Ray Cyrus, posted a picture on Twitter and Instagram earlier this week it was revealed that his wife, Tish Cyrus, posing next to what looks like a safe containing more than 16 bags of pot about the size of her head.
“Yes! As I said yesterday @TishCyrus…. my how the times they are a-changing #CrAzYMaMa,” Cyrus wrote in the caption.
Although the Cyrus family is open about their recreational use of marijuana in the past, with Miley telling “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon that she is an avid user, it was still a shocking image that Tish gave context in the comments of her husband’s Instagram post.

“…My man @billyraycyrus is INSANE, Second, these photos is also crazy, and the third this is NOT my weed or my house! hahah. But if it was, that would be fantastic for so many reasons!”
However, the explanation does not satisfy many, who quickly took to the comments to argue that people of color are often convicted for having small amounts of pot, while the celebrity family will get to pose with a large amount with impunity.
“Now to speak about all the people (mostly black and brown) is in jail for the possession or sale of less than one of those bags,” one user wrote.
“I get ppl are happy that it is decriminalized but so many ppl are still imprisoned, and families torn apart for a small part of what this box contains. #Thinkbeforeyoutweet,” wrote another critic.

It is worth noting that recreational marijuana is legal in the state of California, where the Cyrus family spends a lot of time in addition to their rural Nashville estate. It is unclear where the photo in question was taken, though. Regardless, California weed laws provide for a limited amount that any individual may possess at a particular time, that the plethora in Billy Ray’s photo likely exceeds. In addition, it is unclear whether the stock still belongs to a private person or legal entity with a legal dispensary business.
