‘Migrants are at great risk in Libyan camps of smugglers’
Migrants in Libyan camps of people smugglers are not secure, according to a report that the German ministry of Foreign Affairs has drawn up, reports Welt am Sonntag.
In the camps people walk the danger of being murdered or tortured, and there are systematic violations of human rights. The research was done by the German embassy in Niger. The report would speak of “concentration camp-like conditions in private prisons set up by people smugglers.”
The researchers drew the conclusions under the other on the basis of video and film material in the camps, and was made with mobile phones. According to the report, there are a lot of killings, tortures and rapes.
An eyewitness would have reported that in one of the camps on a weekly basis on Friday, five executions were carried out. The executions would take place to make room for new migrants in the camp.
The German chancellor Angela Merkel suggested on Saturday that they were concerned about the conditions in Libya. Next week there is in Malta a meeting of European leaders on the situation in Libya.
The situation in Libya is very unstable since in 2011, Muammar already happening was switched off. The crossing from Libya to Italy is a very popular route for people smugglers.
