A Michigan mother who pleaded guilty to running over her 9-year-old son, resulting in a brain injury to the child, will serve 30 days in jail, according to reports.

Tiffany Kosakowski, 36, pleaded guilty in February to a misdemeanor count of reckless driving after prosecutors say she ran over her son after dropping him off at school in December.

But on Thursday, Kent County Circuit Judge Curt Benson sentenced Kosakowski to six months in prison with all but 30 days suspended — despite calling her actions “simply inexcusable.”

The surveillance video of the Chandler Woods Charter Academy showed the time Kosakowski son hung on the passenger side at the front of the door of her car for nearly 50 metres before he lost his grip and was run over Dec. 11.

The authorities say that he doesn’t want to stay in school. The boy survived, but suffered a fractured skull, a traumatic injury to his brain, and broken bones. A second-degree child abuse charge was later withdrawn.

Kosakowski said during her sentencing hearing that she has to live with this for the rest of my life.”
