Mexican international Marquez was suspected of ties with drug cartel

Rafael Marquez, 142-fold international of Mexico, by the American ministry of Finance investigated because of his ties with the Mexican drug cartel.

The former defender of FC Barcelona would be a straw man of a suspicious drugsbaas. The assets of Marquez in the US are frozen.

According to the Treasury Department would Marquez financial ties with Raul Flores Hernandez, a suspect who is linked to the notorious Sinaloa cartel.

Marquez is coming from the province of Michoacan, a Mexican region that is plagued by bendeoorlogen and drug trafficking.

Confederations Cup

Marquez made his debut in 1997 for Mexico and participated in four world CHAMPIONSHIPS. The 38-year-old defender played between 2003 and 2010 for Barcelona and arrived in Europe for AS Monaco and Hellas Verona. In the USA he played for Red Bull New York.

Marquez did in June with his country at the Confederations Cup in Russia. The defender played 22 minutes in the team contest against New Zealand and also got speelminuten in the halvefinaleduel with Germany and the match for place three against Portugal.

In the tournament for the Gold Cup in July was Marquez, who is currently in his native country, under contract to Atlas Guadalajara, not at the Mexican selection.
