Metro London trades ‘ladies and gentlemen’ for gender-neutral greeting
The London underground does the phrase “ladies and gentlemen” in the ban.
Travelers, according to the newspaper The Telegraph will be in a gender neutral way greeted. Staff would have been informed that they greetings as “good morning everyone” must use in order to ensure that everyone feels welcome.
The responsible public authority Transport for London (TfL) has let us know that also pre-recorded announcements on the kick.
“We want everyone to feel welcome in our transport network”, explained the director for klantstrategie of TfL. In the language used in communications should according to him be taken into account “the enormous diversity of London’s population.
TfL does not exclude that “well-intentioned employees” occasionally, however, the term “ladies and gentlemen” will use. If that all too often, staff will again be advised of the new policy. The measure is supported by pressure group Stonewall, which advocates for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (lgbt’ers).
