Medical research in children extended
The possibilities for medical research to do with children and adult persons who can not themselves be able to decide is enlarged. The First Room was on Tuesday agreed with a proposal by minister Edith Schippers (public Health).
There are strict conditions attached. The burden of the research must be for the subjects are limited and must be in relation with the treatment that they undergo. It’s not about major interventions, but, for example, to the reduction of an additional tube of blood or a scan during a conventional treatment.
At this time, so that children and adult persons who are not themselves making their own decisions, not on scientific research are allowed to participate if not them directly.
A child may soon be from sixteen years to decide to participate in such research. Now it is eighteen years of age. In younger children and adult wilsonbekwamen have parents or immediate family first give permission.
Scientific researchers and the central committee on research involving human subjects had for the expansion advocates. Doctors and patient groups have supported this call. The proposal from Skippers is in line with a new regulation of the EU for the field of drug discovery.
