Massachusetts woman guilty of endangering in the death son

LYNN, Mass. – A Massachusetts woman was found guilty for the death of her 4-month-old son, who prosecutors say was “largely unattended” in a homeless shelter.

The Essex district attorney’s office, says the 24-year-old Laçin Kirk, of Lynn, was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison Wednesday after found guilty of intentional or reckless child in danger. Kirk has already more than eight months, and a court is suspended for the rest of the sentence for three years.

Her son, Charles Mark III, died in September 2015, when they stayed in the Lynn shelter.

Prosecutors say Kirk, also known as Laçin Brand, spent the day drinking with a friend while the baby was left in a messy crib.

An autopsy determined the baby died of natural causes.
