A masked gunman was taken into custody Monday morning after firing a gun outside a court building in the heart of the Dallas — is just a block away from where five police officers killed in the 2016 engines.
The defendant, in a video posted online by the KDFW, has been shown to run through the parking lot of the Earle Cabell Federal Building before being hit by gunfire from the police.
The officials told the Dallas Morning News, the gunman, who has not been identified, opened fire shortly before 9 a.m. local time. A witness told the newspaper that the gunman shot the rounds for about 45 seconds, and a photographer at the scene reported seeing the glass in the building’s revolving doors, crushed in the aftermath.
The position of the defendant is unknown, and the Dallas police department saying that he was sent to a local hospital. There were no reports of any injuries.
Shots were fired Monday morning, outside the Earle Cabell Federal Building in downtown Dallas.
The police later carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious device in a nearby vehicle, believed to be in the possession of the accused. The ATF and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department is also said to be assisting in the investigation.
As the scene goes on for a dozen or so blocks from the Winspear Opera House where, on Monday morning, the new Dallas mayor and city council were sworn in at a WFAA reporter tweeted.
