At least 20 cars crash caused closures on I-270 South

A tractor-trailer carrying gravel and stone crash, loses its content on I-270 in Maryland, causing at least 20 cars crash.

Several motorists were injured after a tractor trailer carrying stones and gravel lost its load on a Maryland interstate outside the capital city of the country, causing a pileup involving 20 vehicles, the officials said.

The Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service said the crash was reported in the southern lanes of Interstate 270 around 5:20 pm in Germantown, located about 24 kilometers northwest of Washington, D. C.

Pete Piringer, a spokesman for Montgomery County Fire, tweeted that rescue workers evaluated 24 people on the scene, and four were transferred to the hospitals.

Of the four sent to hospitals, only two were considered trauma-level injuries, but no one believed life-threatening, according to Piringer.

Officials said a 20-car pileup on a Maryland interstate on Monday was caused after a truck with stones and gravel lost its load.

Piringer tweeted “other vehicles apparently could not prevent” the tractor-trailer after it lost its load.

The crash in the area of Middlebrook Road caused all lanes on the highway to be closed for several hours, according to FOX5.

The crash on Interstate 270 in Maryland involved 20 vehicles.

Maryland State Police said that they are investigating the crash with the assistance of Montgomery County Police and the Maryland State Highway Administration.
