The Oranjevrouwen have Monday in Zeist for the first time a training with the full world cup selection finished. That means that Shanice van de Sanden and Lieke Martens are members of the team of national coach Sarina Wiegman.
Van de Sanden (Olympique Lyon) and Martens (FC Barcelona) were last week still facing each other in the Champions League final. Lyon won the final battle in the Hungarian Budapest easily with 4-1.
Also Martens’ team-mate at Barcelona, Stefanie van der Gragt did in that final, but the defender played as a substitute just ten minutes and closed last week at at the Oranjevrouwen. Van der Gragt missed this season, a lot of duels by injuries.
Wiegman was in the middle of may already with a small selection started to train. Last week also added, among others, Sari van Veenendaal, Vivianne Miedema, Jackie Groenen, Daniëlle van de Donk, Desiree van Lunteren and Jill Roord joined the group.
The Oranjevrouwen prepare for the world cup Friday, June 7, begins in France. The European champion of 2017 is on Tuesday, June 11, against New Zealand for the first time in action, after which the team of Wiegman in the group stage also duels with Cameroon (June 15th) and Canada (20 June) wait.
The Oranjevrouwen play Saturday against Australia in the last practice game for the world cup. That uitzwaaiduel starts at 18.15 hours in the Philips Stadium.
