“Many children with special onderwijsbehoefte sit unnecessarily at home’
Thousands of children are sitting according to former Kinderombudsman Marc Dullaert ‘completely unnecessary’ home as a part of the schools and the municipalities are insufficient to do an appropriate onderwijsplek to find.
That says, the former Kinderombudsman Marc Dullaert on Monday in Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant. He studied the past few months, the thuiszittersproblematiek.
The number of children that take months or years and not in education is in the Netherlands for years, around ten thousand. Schools, churches and three ministries in June the Thuiszitterspact signed to this number with Dullaert as a ‘catalyst’ to bring back.
He traveled in recent months by the country and saw that it was in some places good and other not.
“About thuiszitters is sometimes spoken of as children who have a disease. Those children are not sick, they have a special onderwijsbehoefte. It is up to schools and municipalities to provide this.”
