NEWARK, N. J. – A New Jersey man who planned to kidnap and assassinate of a woman he met online and went on two dates, is on the way to the prison.
Federal prosecutors say that the 36-year-old Christopher Thieme received a 17 ½ year prison sentence Monday.
Authorities say the woman tried to cut off contact with Thieme after two dates.
Prosecutors say Thieme asked a friend to help kidnap the woman. They say that the friend called authorities, who set up a sting operation.
Researchers say that Thieme told an undercover FBI agent who ever the woman was abducted, he would empty bank accounts, and fraudulently to sell her house. He would then use those proceeds to pay for the kidnapping and murder.
Thieme, of Newton, pleaded guilty in June to attempted kidnapping and murder-for-hire.
