A man in a Tennessee apartment complex was killed by the police after an hourslong standoff, authorities said.
An hourslong standoff in Clarksville, Tennessee., between the police and a man linked to a woman’s disappearance ended Friday, with police fatally shooting the man, who was fired at the SWAT officers while barricaded in his apartment complex, authorities said.
An investigation into the woman’s disappearance led authorities to the residence of James Vaughn, 49, of Clarksville, who the Tennessee Bureau of investigation had identified Vaughn as the ex-boyfriend of the missing woman, FOX 17 reported.

The authorities have not identified the woman or details known about the disappearance, but family members have identified the missing woman as Letitia Lane.
Vaughn reportedly refused to cooperate with the authorities and barricaded themselves in the apartment complex for several hours. SWAT officers tried to break in through the door, but were shot. TBI said the SWAT officers do not return fire.
Neighbors were evacuated, and no one else was injured, the Leaf-Chronicle.

The police used tear gas deployed and SWAT officers breached the door. According to TBI, Vaughn pointed two guns at officers. The agents shot at Vaughn, “striking him several times, killing him,” a TBI press release read.
