Man dies after saving the fiance of the family of house fire

Eric Chambers hailed a hero after rescuing Jackie Goulet and her family from a house fire on christmas day of the year.

A Texas man who was hailed as a hero for saving his fiance’s family from a Christmas day house fire has died.

Jackie Goulet is the prices of her fiancé, 36-year-old Eric Chambers, for saving her and her family’s lives when a fire engulfed their christmas tree.

She said around 4:30 am on Christmas morning, the couple were asked to wrap some last minute gifts in their Arlington, Texas home. She told Fox 4 News that she asked him to turn on the christmas tree, because “it seemed to be too gloomy.”

The couple went to the garage and a few minutes later, Goulet the 12-year-old son yelled that the house was on fire.

Rooms jumped into action.

“He made sure that my mother got out and he got my aunt,” Goulet recalled. “She is retarded. So she was afraid. He made sure she got off. And as soon as she came out of the door, he was screaming, ‘do You have Hailey?’ You everyone?!’ And we want to be, ‘Yes, we have everybody.'”

Chambers allegedly went into the house several times to make sure that everyone – including the dog was safe. And then it turned for the worse.

“You could see that he was just in shock, just happy that he got everyone out,” Goulet said. “Then he just dropped. I was able to let him walk on two feet, and he dropped and said, ” My face burned trying to get out of the front door.'”

She said that it was the last thing he said.

Chambers was taken to the hospital shortly after Arlington firefighters arrived on the scene. He died a short time later.

It was unclear the cause of the death.

“He knew what he was doing when he was in the fire to get everybody,” homeowner Jeanine Gabriel told Fox 4 News. “I say that he is a hero, and he will have an angel on your shoulder for the rest of your life.”

Goulet said she and Chambers had known each other for 17 years and recently got engaged. She said he leaves behind three children of his own.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the funeral and to help the family recover from the fire.

Arlington firefighters said they are still investigating the cause of the fire.
