Major solo exhibition for designer Maarten Baas in Groninger Museum
The Groninger Museum is presenting from 18 February a major retrospective of the work of designer Maarten Baas.
In the world of design is Boss for quite some time now firmly in the regard and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York has work from him.
In eight rooms of the Groninger Museum will be more than eighty works to show. The exhibition begins with his most famous creations, a series that the name “Smoke”. The furniture, which he had burned, and then with a special coating new life product. They were even in production for sale.
“Boss, let people look differently at things, you’re going to think about it. The are everyday things, where he has his turn, a melancholy, playful, absurd, or humorous. His work has sometimes even a large lolligheidsgraad,” says curator Sue-An van der zijpp, went.
That Boss for a joke to poke is also revealed in Milan in 2014, when he took the role of ringmaster, played in his own designpresentatie (for which he and the Milan Design Award).
The Groninger Museum has Boss since his graduation in 2002 followed. Boss drew further attention with a series of kleimeubelen and with different clocks, including full-length copies.
