Maccabi Haifa relieve coach Meulensteen after half
René Meulensteen is Monday, after six months, fired at Maccabi Haifa. The 0-3 defeat Saturday in the derby against Hapoel Haifa was the trainer fatal.
“There will always be a place in my heart for this club”, says Meulensteen in a Maccabi statement issued.
Maccabi Haifa is slipped to the seventh spot in the Israeli league. The 52-year-old Meulensteen was since the beginning of August in service to the club. Of the last seven duels knew Maccbi there is only one win and went five lost.
Meulensteen was previously head coach at Fulham in 2013. With the Londoners, he took on the tasks of the sacked Martin Jol.
Was Meulensteen under interim coach of Anzhi Makhachkala as the successor of the dismissed Guus Hiddink, but he had already after two weeks leave at the Russian club.
The last job of Meulensteen before he joined Maccabi entered service in, was his role as a consultant at the American club Philadelphia Union.
Meulensteen is especially known for his work with Manchester United, where he is from 2007 to 2013 engineering and veldtrainer was under manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
