A Louisiana police officer was killed Friday and another was injured after a car chase, a New Orleans-area suburb, authorities said.
Witnesses said the chase began after a traffic stop in the area of State Routes 22 and / or 190 near Mandeville.
A suspect got out of the car, and allegedly shot at a Mandeville police officer, who died. Another officer arrived and was shot and killed, WVUE-TV reported.
“We have a woman who is grieving. We have kids who are in mourning,” Mandeville police chief Gerald Sticker, told reporters at a press conference.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said that the injured officer was also grazed. It was unclear if the officers returned fire. The identities of the officers have not been released.
Two of the suspects were taken into custody, Smith’s office said.
Gov. John Ball Edwards tweeted about the deadly attack.
“Our hearts go out to the officer’s family and friends, and the people of Mandeville and the entire law enforcement community. Please join @FirstLadyOfLA, and say a prayer for our nation this day and age. #lagov #lalege,” he said.
Missy Noel, who was at a golf tournament in the area, said NOLA.com which golfers have been ordered off the course and told us to hide away from it all.

The last of the Mandeville police officer to die in the line of duty in 1958, the station reported.
