R. E. M. has once again make their voices heard. The band, who already have five years no longer occurs, put a until now unknown live recording of the old World Leader Pretend online in the context of a campaign against Donald Trump.
R. E. M. worked on the 30 Days, 30 Songs, a campaign of writer Dave Eggers (The circle, A hologram for the king) and producer Jordan Kurland. Each day, they place a protestsong of a participating artist online as a protest against the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Until now, covering songs by, among others, Death Cab for Cutie and Franz Ferdinand, new songs.
Now comes R. E. M. with a ongereleasete live recording of the old song World Leader Pretend. The original was Green, the picture from 1988 that also have the anti-Vietnamlied Orange Crush is featured. In a statement, called R. E. M. World Leader Pretend ‘is a perfect song for these strange times.’
