“Let child up to fourteen years ‘primary education’
Children can be the best to their fourteenth in the primary school continue. That is better for the development and the learner better access to his or her capabilities, says educator Marie-Christine Opdenakker, University of Groningen.
Opdenakker held a major investigation into three education systems in nine European countries. The conclusions of those reports at the beginning of February, writes the AD.
Opdenakker advocates for a system whereby children longer go to elementary school and then immediately move on to a vocational training, a general preparatory course for a college or university. Mainly boys, the children of migrants and laatbloeiers take advantage of it later to college.
According to Opdenakker increase the Dutch educational system differences and work inequality in the hand. That early selection of children the chance to develop, hold according to its no position. “Understand countries where people are asked to select, do not perform better in international comparisons.”
There is going to be according to the educational much wrong in determining the correct schooladvies that children receive. “Children of low-skilled parents to score more often a too low opinion. Also playing posture, and then score boys lower than girls.”
Currently 12 percent of high school students sit. Also, one in three children on a different level of education than they are of the primary school got. Opdenakker: “These figures indicate that it is quite wrong in placing students at an appropriate level.”
Opdenakker argues that the development of the brains of girls and boys is not equal. “At the age of twelve, is a large part of the future of children in the Netherlands are determined. So restrict them.”
Opdenakker see the Finnish education system as an example. In addition, the early selection replaced for a core curriculum of nine years. Each child gets there own program that they work longer on subjects that they find difficult and vice versa.
The effects of the Finnish system are, according to the researcher is positive. “In Finland, come to remain almost not. Also, the verbal performance of students increased, and the results of children of low educated parents, went up.”
The VO Council, the organization for secondary education, explained that currently all is working with a broad brugklussen, in which pupils only after two years of having to choose for a final level. The council agrees with Opdenakker that children from a young age to make a choice.
