‘Less and less women give birth at home’
Less and less women give birth at home. Ten years ago, it was still 23 percent of children in the home born, in 2015, this was still 13 percent.
That message the AD Thursday on the basis of figures of Perined. The netherlands has always been a country where a lot of women in the home liked of their child. In the nineties the percentage was around 35 percent and after the Second world War, the percentage was even at around 80 percent.
According to the Dutch Association for Obstetrics and Gynaecology (NVOG), the difference is to be explained by the greater demand for pain relief tjidens the birth. “It used to be a home birth is the starting point. Now, women are also told that it is not always the right choice,” according to the VNOG-chairman Jan van Lith.
According to the association for midwives, the decline also have to deal with wrong information and let women lead, by what they see in their surroundings. That would, according to the society lead to a “self-reinforcing”effect.
