Da Vinci masterpiece breaks records: Sell for $450 million
Leave and thought that it was a fake for years, of Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpiece, the “Salvator Mundi” hit Christie’s auction block and shattered world records, raking in more than $450 million.
Leonardo da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi” painting, which recently sold for a record $450.3 million, will be on display at the new Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The museum, which first opened its doors in a blaze of publicity in the last month, the announcement of the exhibition in a short Instagram post, and a series of tweets in English, French and Arabic on Wednesday. The Louvre Abu Dhabi also announced the news in an Arabic-language post on its Facebook page.

The painting by the Italian Renaissance master grabbed headlines when it was sold for a record-breaking price at Christie’s auction house in New York.

The highest known sale price for any work of art was $300 million for Willem de Kooning’s painting “Interchange.”
“Salvator Mundi,” Latin for “Savior of the World”, is one of fewer than 20 paintings of Da Vinci are known and the only one in private hands. The painting’s buyer was not identified, questions speculation about the mystery buyer.
The New York Times claimed Wednesday that the painting was bought by a Saudi prince.

Christie’s congratulated the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

“Salvator Mundi” has led to the profile of the new Louvre museum in the world of art. A decade in the making, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is the centrepiece of the Saadiyat Island cultural district in the United Arab Emirates capital. The museum is supported and received contributions from the Agence France-Museums.

The beautiful modernist building, designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, is covered in a honeycomb dome, the eight layers of the Arabian style geometric shapes.

The arab leaders and kings, as well as the French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte, visited the museum, the inauguration of the last month.
Conceived by the French President Jacques Chirac as a means to combat extremism with art after Sept. 11 attacks, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is intended to be a bridge between East and West, with the Buddhist, Christian, Islamic and Jewish artefacts.
The construction project was plagued by questions about workers’ conditions.
