Lena Dunham said on the latest episode of her podcast that she wants, she had an abortion to fight against the stigma around this issue.”
“Something I’ve thought about a lot is the fact that there is a stigma around abortion,” Dunham said on her podcast “Women of the Hour” on December 14.
The “Girls” creator, the story of a visit to an abortion clinic in Texas, a number of years ago, when a young girl asked them to participate in a project where women share their stories of abortion.
“I kind of jumped,” Dunham said. “‘I have not had an abortion,’ I told her. I wanted to make it really clear to her that, as much as I go out and fight for other women’s options, I myself had never had an abortion.”
It was then, Dunham said, she realized “I, Even I, the woman who cares as much as someone on a woman’s right to choose, felt it was important that the people know that I was unscathed in this department.”
She added, “Now I can say that I still do not have an abortion, but I wish I had.”
Many people took to Twitter to express their outrage at Dunham’s comments.
.@lenadunham FYI, abortion is not something you “have.” It is a terrible experience NOT to be desired as a gift from Santa ????????

@lenadunham may never be able to brag about having an abortion it is sad that you think that this would be more authentic pro-choice

I can’t even imagine how offensive Lena Dunham’s comments are to women who actually had abortions

@KFCBarstool I can’t say whether its to make them aware of these comments would be worse or so hit they don’t even realize.
