Lawyer: Driver likely to plead not guilty in fatal bus crash

NASHVILLE, Tennessee. – The lawyer of the driver in a Chattanooga school bus crash that killed six children, says that her client will probably plead not guilty.

Amanda Dunn says she anticipates the 24-year-old Johnthony Walker will plead not guilty if a grand jury indicts him. He is charged with five counts of vehicle homicide. The police says another count will be added.

Dunn says that the accident was devastating for the Hiker and his family. Dunn hoped for a quick investigation and respect for the privacy of the Walker family.

Federal authorities say Walker left the designated bus route Nov. 21 when he ran aground on a winding road, while the transfer of 37 children. Authorities suspect Walker was speeding.

The defense and prosecution, said Walker appears briefly in court Tuesday in Hamilton County to delay a preliminary hearing until Dec. 15.
