nearvideo Senator Klobuchar is the latest in a growing pool of 2020, the Democratic contender
To announce sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn, the last Democrat, for a seat in the 2020 election, is trying to discard labels such as “moderate” or centrist.
In an interview on “The Rachel Maddow Show,” Klobuchar stressed that anyone who faces off against President Donald Trump in the General election, the candidate should be from the “middle of the country”, as himself, on democratic gains in the 2018 midterm elections in States like Kansas and Wisconsin.
“We wanted to back to explains the spirit of the Democratic party in the West,” Klobuchar. “Minnesota is a great place to start. As you know, we have done the Democratic Farmer-labor y, the DFL, and that was the unification of our party, and I’ve won every constituency, including Michelle Bachmann, every single time I run. And I have also worked very hard to work with the people in the rural areas, so that we don’t have that kind of cleavage.”
MSNBC host Rachel Maddow then pointed to the 2016 elections, map of in Minnesota, a state that had Hillary Clinton, but found that there is “a lot of red.”
“You, as you said, won every constituency in the state. Is that because you have run as a moderate? People who are just learning about you for the first time, you will see how much the press, you should describes today as a more moderate or more centrist Democrats in this area?” Maddow asked.
“I think they see me as a progressive, because I believe in progress and I have worked on, progress in the direction of my whole life, whether it is for the county attorney working with the innocence project, in a new form of eyewitness ID in our County and for the video tapes of the interrogations, if that’s what I did, as a senator, where I’ve been, pressing on the front for protection for our democracy. You shall see what has happened, and that Clinton-Trump-race, and we find more and more and more about how Russia is undermining that choice, and tried to hack it and put out propaganda,” Klobuchar responded. “And so these Democratic reforms, including, for each of the young people are able to vote when they are 18, it would be to get a big bill.”
