Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-NY, said she supports the abolition of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, because it has to force a “deportation.”

Gillibrand’s comments were prompted, according to CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked whether they agreed with the Democratic house candidate, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez New York, who has called for the Agency to be completely eliminated.

“Well, I agree with him. I don’t think the ICE works today as planned,” Gillibrand said in response.

Gillibrand said: instead, the government should build “something that really works.”

“I believe that it is become to force a deportation. And, I think, should be added the criminal justice system of the problems of immigration disconnect,” she said. “I think they should reimagine the ICE under a new Agency, with a completely different mission, and these two missions. So we believe that we should be protecting families that need our help, and that is not what ICE is doing today.”
