Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, called the allegations that he sexually harassed and raped women decades ago, while in high school and college “smears” in a new letter to the top lawmakers on the Senate judiciary Committee.

Kavanaugh, who wants to testify Thursday, was met with fresh, but not substantiated allegations since his first hearing earlier this month. He said Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and ranking member sen Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., he is determined to defend himself, his integrity and his seat on the high court.

“The despicable threats of violence against my family wrote to me,” Kavanaugh. “The last-minute character assassination will not succeed.”
