Hollywood legend Judi Dench has a more interesting take on her character in the new film of the musical “Cats.”
In the film, Dench, 85, has a cat called Old Deuteronomy, the leader of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles. Every year, the Old Deuteronomy, played by a man, it will choose a cat to ascend to the Heaviside Layer to be reborn into a new life.
Dench was speaking with Out Magazine about the film, and pointed out that they have previously been cast to play the cat and Grizabella in 1981 in the West End production before its achilles ‘ heel.

“It’s great to be included in [the film], I have to say. [It was] nerve-wracking, because all I can hear is Brian Blessed all of the time, the production of which I was not in a position to be in,” said Dench, referring to the actor who played Old Deuteronomy in the production, she had to drop out.
Since the character is usually depicted as a man, Dench has called her casting in “all of a sudden.”

“I like to call it the” trans-God,'” she explained. “[This] is the part in front of me, you know.”
The Oscar-winner added, “it was very nice to be with and a very old cat, very nice indeed.”

Tom Hooper is no more than $100 million for the adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage musical bombed at the box office, taking in only $6.5 million in ticket sales its first weekend. The critics didn’t like it a lot better, though, as the film is pulled up to an 18-percent fresh score on Rotten tomatoes.
In addition to Dench, the film stars, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, James Corden, and Rebel Wilson.
