Judge in Peru issues warrant for ex-president Toledo
A court in Peru on Thursday (local time) an international arrest warrant issued for former president Alejandro Toledo.
According to the judge in Toledo, in each case for eighteen months the cell in order for prosecutors to further research into the corruptiezaak which translated about 20 million euros would have been involved.
Toledo has “the high office of the presidency is abused to an illegal pact to join the sell of a project for the construction of a highway,” concluded the judge. The international construction company Odebrecht has admitted to the bribes to, among others, in Toledo to have given in exchange for a commission.
Toledo, who was president between 2001 and 2006, denied last week any involvement. He stayed at that time in France. His lawyer told local media that his client has advised not to return to Peru.
