Jovenel Moise wins Haitian presidential election

Businessman and bananenexporteur Jovenel Moise, a majority achieved in the first round of the Haitian presidential election, a second round is not needed anymore.

With 55,67% of all votes Moise a majority which means that a second and decisive round is not necessary, according to the provisional results announced by the electoral council.

Haiti will then after a year of political uncertainty finally, a new president, provided that the losing candidates, the results are not contested.

The first round of the presidential election was a rematch of the elections, which a year ago were held. The result was when, after numerous complaints about fraud is declared void.


President Michel Martelly took office in February, without a successor was chosen. Haiti has been led by interim president Jocelerme Privert.

The original vote would actually October 9, to be kept but due to the hurricane Matthew was postponed until 20 november.

Matthew struck at the beginning of October, the poverty-stricken country. More than a thousand people have died and tens of thousands were rendered homeless. The United Nations, donors are asked more than 100 million euros available for the victims.
