Johnson & Johnson in early talks to buy the drugmaker Actelion

NEW YORK – Johnson & Johnson is in early talks to buy the Swiss drugmaker Actelion Pharmaceuticals.

Actelion Pharmaceuticals Ltd. makes high blood pressure medicines for the treatment of the arteries in the lungs and around the heart. Johnson & Johnson of New Brunkswick, New Jersey, develops medicines and produces medical equipment and other consumer products.

Shares of Johnson & Johnson rose 93 cents to $114 in the afternoon trade Friday.
