Johannes Vermeer Award for fashion designer Iris van Herpen
Fashion designer Iris van Herpen will receive this year’s Johannes Vermeer Award, the Dutch state prize for the arts. The jury has her nominated because they are consistent and a leader within the international fashion world.
The presentation will take place on 30 October in the Hall of knights in The Hague.
The 33-year-old Van Herpen was awarded the prize for her entire oeuvre. She studied fashion design at the hogeschool voor de kunsten ArtEZ in Arnhem, the netherlands. Her internships she did with Alexander McQueen and Claudy Jongstra. The designer began in 2007 her own label from her studio in Arnhem, the netherlands.
Museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris to have her work exhibited. Also, her designs are loved by celebrities such as Björk, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Tilda Swinton.
The Johannes Vermeer Award consists of a cash prize of 100,000 euros, which the winner may spend on a special project. Won last year film director and visual artist Steve McQueen the award, which since 2009 is presented.
