If elected, the Democrat Joe Biden, the oldest President inaugurated at the 78-would be a year old.

Joe Biden on Tuesday, the influence of the “white man’s “culture of complaining” and laments his own role in the Supreme Court hearings, undermined Anita Hill’s credibility for almost three decades.

The former Vice President and potential to 2020 candidate of the Democrats, said Hill, who is black, should not have been forced, in front of a panel of “a bunch of white guys” about her sexual harassment allegations against Clarence Thomas.

“To this day, I could not come to regret with a way to give her the kind of hearing they deserve,” he said Tuesday night, echoing comments he made last autumn in the midst of debates over sexual misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme court confirmation process. “I wish I could have done something.”

Biden’s role in the 1991 Thomas hearings, is among his many political challenges, as he considers making the 2020 bid for the presidency. If he throws his hat into the already crowded ring, he would be in the case of a handful of white men, in a Democratic presidential field with several women and minorities.

His comments about the hill swift condemnation drew on social media, with many noting he was Chairman of the Senate judiciary Committee in the period after the hearing.

“It is, literally, no matter what else Biden says about sexual assault, if he does not acknowledge his own fault in the implementation of a sexual assault on the Supreme court, and then pretending to be for years as he was powerless to stop it,” tweeted Jessica Morales Rocketto, a former assistant of state Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential campaign, now serves as the political Director for the National Domestic Workers Alliance. (Thomas has long denied the allegations.)

The actress and political activist Mia Farrow called shameful Biden’s role in the 1991 hearings “”.

“Love you Joe, but you were able to make this better — and you don’t,” she said.

Biden, 76, delivered the remarks at a New York City event that honors young people who helped fight against the sexual assault on the college Campus. The event was held at a place called the Russian Tea Room, was organized by the Biden-Foundation and the non-profit group, It is up to Us, the Biden-founded with former President Barack Obama in 2014.

Biden urged Americans to “change the culture” that goes back centuries and allows the ubiquitous violence against women. “It is an English legal academic culture, a white man in the culture. It has to change,” he said.

The former Vice President also denounced violence against women during his speech, the more than half an hour. It is a theme he knows well. As a senator from Delaware, he introduced the violence Against women Act of 1990.

“No man has a right to, a hand on a woman no matter what she wears, she does, who she is, unless in self-defense. Never,” he said on Tuesday.

He then shared a conversation he had with a member of a college fraternity.

“If you see that a brother, not go on a drunken co-ed upstairs in a fraternity house, and you listen, you are a fucking coward,” Biden said. “You have to be it’s not worthy of a man.”
