Jessica Chastain explains why she will not accept a traditional female role’ in Hollywood

Jessica Chastain: ‘Warned from the beginning’ about Weinstein

Jessica Chastain said that she had been “warned from the beginning” about Harvey Weinstein’s alleged inappropriate behavior toward women.

Don’t expect this to be a Hollywood star to play a damsel in distress for a large salary anytime soon.

Jessica Chastain told Town & Country Tuesday is to throw them to the side scripts that reflect stereotyped female roles, and instead, is choosing to be more selective with the kind of films she takes on.

“I’m not one to go for the traditional female role, because I don’t think traditional female characters are very interesting, and I do not think that they represent real life,” said the actress. “I am working hard to break free of the stereotypes that the film industry has created and fed around women.”

And the 40-year-old insisted they will not let dollar signs luring her.

“When I am in a situation where I have equal experience with the actor and my role is just as important, there is no reason why I should be paid less,” said Chastain. “It’s not really a part of my world anymore, because I just can’t accept it.”

These days, Chastain is looking for a completely different role, one where she is the voice of its opinions on the current political climate.

“I’m happy to stand next to and march for a minority have equal rights,” she said. “But I’m not in anything that incites violence, which may increase hatred, because it is catchy… I try to approach my political resistance, and my life with hope and love.”

Chastain is hoping that her determination to accept different types of film reels will speak to other women looking to identify with a character on the big screen.

“I believe that the energy you put into the world is what you get back, so I try to put something positive out there, something to inspire and girls go into science, to run for office, to try to be a member of the space program,” she said.
