Jessica Biel visits the California State Capitol on Tuesday to lobby for the support of what some see as an “anti-vaccination” stance against a bill that has been introduced in the state Senate, reports said.
The actress joined the environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr .. speaking to lawmakers about her opposition to the bill, which pushes for more oversight of medical exemptions from vaccinations for children.
“Please say thank you to the brave [Jessica Biel] for a very busy and productive day at the California State House,” Kennedy, captioning an Instagram post.
John f. Kennedy, who was the founder of the Children’s Health and Defense, is strongly opposed to the bill, known as SB 276, which was introduced by Dr. Richard Pan, a state senator, and the child’s physician.
Existing law requires the parents to submit a written statement by a medical doctor, in order to exempt their child from vaccination. The bill would require the form to be signed by an official of the Ministry of Health.
The debate over whether or not vaccinations are safe for children as it is both complex and controversial, in particular because of a recent measles outbreak in the U.S., Biel seems to be taking a public stance on the issue has caused a lot of stir on social media.
“Jessica Biel is as pro-youth, death, and the measles, mumps, and the flu,” tweeted Dr. Jennifer Gunter, a California gynecologist.
“It appears that she and her husband, Justin Timberlake, brings measles back again,” read a tweet from an author and a journalist, Jennifer Wright.
