Jessica Alba says ‘everyone’ told her that there was ‘no way’, that her Honest Company would be ‘successful.’
Jessica Alba has always been at the top of her health-minded and eco-friendly company, Honest Co., but most people didn’t know that until recently.
“Because I was together with a boy who has made the business model everyone thought that it was his idea and that I as the face of the company and that I am just like a small percentage,” she said on the stage of the SheKnows Media #Blogher18 Creators Summit on Thursday in Manhattan, at Pier 17. “They did not understand that it is the other way around.”
The 37-year-old, who is the founder of the all-natural baby, beauty and product business in 2011, told the story of how an allergic reaction to a cleaning product during the pregnancy of her first child led to the idea for the multi-millions company.
“For a long time, I was just good with her,” she said, as she received less recognition than her partner in business. “Like,” I don’t really care, give me the money,’ and I didn’t know that until probably three years ago how important it is for women to see someone like me,” she explained, before going into more depth on her childhood, her hard-working parents, and finding success in Hollywood.
“I had everyone saying to me:” There is no way that you are going to be successful’ and I just freakin’ pushed through and I made it happen,” she said. “I think the representation as a leader of now is just as important as it was in the entertainment-and I didn’t realize that until three years ago.”
Alba also announced the winner of a business pitch competition, which was awarded $50,000 in the marketing in the direction of their company.
