Chris Cornell of the band Soundgarden died on may 18. Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, who was good friends with Cornell, died on July 20. Both singers committed suicide.
“Chester was my friend and I have learned a lot from him. Especially about hard work and chasing your dreams, and how you get to a good and caring person,” said Leto. “When I got to Chester think I can see his face, always a smile on to find. I think of his wife, his band and his voice: as powerful and sensitive at the same time. That voice lives forever.”
Leto asked the audience to stand and cried out to the viewer then to seek help when experiencing depression or suicidal tendencies. MTV sent then a fragment of the concert of Linkin Park with Bennington during the VMA’s in 2013.
