Home births can be messy and actor James Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly, knows that better than anyone. The couple just welcomed their fifth child, a baby girl named Gwendolyn, on Friday.

Gwendolyn is delivered to the couple’s home with the help of a doctor and midwife, similar to the birth of their three children, People reports.

“Every child awakened a different energy in you … and this is the bring of the truth since we found out she was on her way,” Van Der Beek told the publication.

The 41-year-old “Dawson’s Creek” alum is really about the birth on Instagram Monday, sharing a photo of his wife in the placenta.

“The word of caution, if you’re squeamish,” he warned.

In the picture, Van Der Beek is sitting on the ground with his baby in his arms and a placenta is placed in a bowl for him.

“Messy bed ✔️ of Plastic sheeting under the old sheets ✔️Old towel crumpled on the ground ✔️ vomit bag (unused) ✔️ Inflatable birth tub (also unused 😬)✔️ Shirtless Father ✔️Boy in Spider-Man pajamas ✔️Happy, healthy baby ✔️ Happy, healthy Mommy in her own shower immediately after giving birth ✔️ Water bottle ✔️And… placenta in a bowl ✔️ (I warned you),” he wrote.

Van Der Beek also used the platform to be a voice for the rejection of children who are separated from their parents at the U.S.-mexican border, calling on President Trump and the Congress to do something.

Happy to announce we have welcomed a new baby girl into the world Friday morning, just in time for #Fathersday 😍 These last couple of days, I have enjoyed the privilege of making smoothies I know that my older children will be happy, my wife is red raspberry leaf tea to ease her uterine contractions, the use of “boy time” with my son and my two year old down for a nap in the way only I know how… I’ve been heart sick about something. As I write this, children are ripped from the arms of their parents. By our government. For the kid’s benefit? No – the opposite – as a meaningful representation of cruelty to deter illegal border crossers AND legal asylum seekers (it happens to both). And it wouldn’t be fair to wax poetic about my new baby bliss without to speak out against these outrages. If we allow our government to de-humanize fathers, and mothers, and children in the name of the defense of our borders… we have lost a large part of what makes those borders worth defending. And even if you don’t believe in karma, or in expanding the basic human decency to people who don’t win the geographical birth lottery… even if you’re hard-liner enough to say, “violating the law, the consequences,” should not the punishment at least fit the crime? And if you are still cold enough to say, “Well, it’s effective,” consider this: This horrible practice was brought in by our own attorney-general (justified with a cherry-picked verse of the Bible), and our president is the blame rivals for tweeting his list of legal requirements to be met before he stops. Regardless of how you feel about immigration, or a wall, or this president… if we say we are good with our government using human rights violations as a deterrent or as a bargaining chip… what happens when we are on the wrong side of the agenda? Either in this administration or the next? This should not be a political issue – it is a man. A crime against humanity is a crime against all of us. More info in the link in my bio. Oh, and @vanderkimberly – you’re a f*cking earth goddess rock star and I’m under the impression of you as I am in love with you. And our new baby’s name is Gwendolyn ❤️ #HappyFathersDay everyone.
