Italy extends contract coach Ventura and EK 2020
The Italian bond has Wednesday the contract of coach Giampiero Ventura extended. Although participation in the world cup of 2018 is still not sure for the ‘Azzurri’, the 69-year-old Italian, through to the european CHAMPIONSHIPS of 2020.
“This is a sign that we trust in Giampiero”, said president Carlo Tavecchio to the Italian bond during a press conference in Rome. The current contract of Ventura walked through to the world cup of 2018.
Italy and Spanjë share the kopposite in group G for the global final tournament in Russia next year. Both countries have, after six scored 16 points.
Only the group winners qualify directly for the world cup. Saturday 2 september Italy and Spain opposite each other.
Ventura, who after the european CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016 Antonio Conte succeeded as head coach, hopes with Italy high eyes to throw in the coming years.
“We have three goals: our places for the world cup, the world cup surprise and one of the favourites for the gold at the european CHAMPIONSHIPS of 2020,” said Ventura, who had previously worked for, among others, Bari, Pisa, Hellas Verona, Napoli, Cagliari, Udinese and Sampdoria.
Italy, the 2006 world title captured, was last summer at the european CHAMPIONSHIPS by Germany in the quarter-finals off.
