TEHRAN, Iran – An Iranian general said that his country’s air defense have warned for several U.S. fighter jets and drones during a military exercise in the south of the country.
The iranian semi-official Tasnim news agency on Wednesday quoted Gen. Abbas Farajpour making the claim.
Farajpour said: “In the last three days of military exercises, the air defense warnings given to 12 aircraft of trans-regional countries to stay away from the land of the sky.”
Calls to the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, based in Bahrain, rang unanswered Wednesday. In the past months, the 5th Fleet has complained about the interaction with the iranian armed forces, at sea and in the air.
Iranian air defense units began an exercise in which 17,000 employees stationed about 496,000 square kilometers (191,505 square km) in the south of Iran on Monday.
