One of the founders of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and a former writer for the Grateful Dead John Perry Barlow is dead.
EFF said in a statement that Barlow died early Wednesday morning in his sleep at the age of 70. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Barlow was known for his faith in cyber freedoms and co-founder of the EFF in 1990 to champion of free speech and privacy online.
EFF says Barlow, “always saw the Internet as a fundamental place of freedom, where voices long silent audience, and people can connect with others, regardless of the physical distance.”
He also wrote lyrics for the Grateful Dead songs, including “Touch of Grey” and “Brown Eyed Woman,” among dozens of others.
