UNION SPRINGS, Ala. – A prisoner has died after authorities say two other prisoners stabbed him in an Alabama prison.
The Alabama Department of Corrections says in a news release that the 41-year-old James Edwards Rodgers was attacked by two prisoners with makeshift knives Tuesday afternoon at the Bullock Correctional Facility. He died in the hospital soon after the attack.
The authorities say that the 19-year-old Paul Johnson and 35-year-old Christopher Hand will be charged with the murder.
Rodgers was convicted in 1998 for first-degree robbery and was scheduled to be released in December 2018.
A motive for the stabbing is not known. Johnson serves a three-year sentence for 2015 the first degree robbery conviction. The Hand was sentenced to 25 years in 2008 for distribution of a controlled substance, and methamphetamine trafficking in human beings.
