India’s Flipkart add original content to the video service

MUMBAI (Reuters) – Mark Inc’s Indian unit, Flipkart has been adding original shows to the new video platform, the company said on Tuesday, as it competes with arch-rival Amazon.com Inc. ‘ s Prime Video.

Flipkart, which says it has 160 million customers in India, rolled out its video service in August, and will be tying up with a Bollywood A-list crowd including director Farah Khan will have to produce original video series, ” he said in a press release.

“Flipkart Video the Originals in order to create custom, snackable content that is mobile-first, interactive in nature,” he said.

In India, it is the retailer who is in competition with Amazon, which offers streaming music and video service with its Prime membership.

Budget information-use and affordable smart phones that have made India a ripe market for companies such as Netflix and Amazon, as millions of people use their mobile phones for entertainment.

In August, Flipkart, said in the video, the service would be free to focus on films, short films and web series.
