LAGRANGE, Ind. – A northern Indiana man has been charged with drunken driving after his car struck a horse-drawn carriage, killing a woman and her 15-year-old daughter.
The LaGrange County Department declaration Monday against the 21-year-old Jazieel DeLeon-Galvan of Ligonier. He was being held Tuesday in the LaGrange County Jail.
Authorities say 44-year-old Velda C. Miller of Ligonier, and her daughter, Melissa Jo died on Saturday in the crash in the centre of Topeka, about 40 miles northwest of Fort Wayne. Miller’s 46-year-old man was driving the buggy and was taken to a hospital with pain in the neck.
The sheriff’s office has said DeLeon-Galvan told authorities he had just passed the other vehicle he hit the buggy, a vehicle common in an area with many Amish. He also went to a hospital.
