Incisional hernia after abdominal surgery is better to prevent by surgically mat
An incisional hernia after abdominal surgery, the most common complication after openbuikchirurgie, it is best to deal with a so-called parent surgical mat.
That concluded researchers from Erasmus MC, those three treatment methods are compared, in The Lancet.
An incisional hernia occurs in 10% to 35% of the patients who openbuikchirurgie have undergone. In most cases, a new surgery than necessary.
The closing of the abdomen in different ways: with sutures, a surgical pad under the muscles (sublay mesh) and with a pad between the muscle and the skin (onlay mesh). From the research, that was carried out in eleven hospitals in the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, it appears that the last method is the most effective.
In the study were 480 patients. Of them were 107 persons annexed, were 188 persons a sublay mesh and 185 persons, a onlay mesh. Of the 92 people who suffer from an incisional hernia was 30 percent attached, had 18 percent a sublay mesh and 13 percent an onlay mesh.
“The conclusion of the study has far-reaching consequences,” says researcher Hans Jeekel. “Thus, we are now in a European directive for the prevention of incisional. Implementation of this preventive method will the cost of care dramatically reduce because heroperaties with all the costs of that can be prevented.”
