‘In the width scored the Netherlands never looked so good at the world CHAMPIONSHIPS in athletics’
Ad Roskam, cherishes the achievements of the Dutch athletes during the past week and a half at the world cup. The technical director of the association of athletics recognizes that our country is not so well performed as in London.
“It is a golden rule that you of the number of final and medaillekansen about half realize. With us was that this world cup is more than half, and so we have a very successful tournament turned,” Roskam, the Dutch team four medals saw win.
The gold and bronze of Dafne Schippers (200 and 100 m), the bronze Anouk Vetter (son of) and the bronze of Sifan Hassan (5,000 feet) gave the Netherlands a record. Never took our country so many medals at a world CHAMPIONSHIPS. For comparison: the century closed, the Netherlands in 2001, 2009 and 2011 world CHAMPIONSHIPS without medals at their home race.
“The upward trend has been in place from 2004 visible,” says Roskam, who is nevertheless not rich charges. “We continue to be a modest atletiekland when it comes to the history and the number of practitioners. Therefore, we should be proud of this result. It still had better have it done, but then you would speak of a droomscenario.”
Hassan thank you ‘the Netherlands’ after bronze at 5000 metres
The netherlands traveled with 28 athletes to London. The total number of top-8-quotes in the British capital was ten. “Over the full width, we have never scored well now. The start of the olympic cycle towards the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020 is a top”, says Roskam.
Encouraging is also that the Dutch team, which as the sixteenth ended in the medailleklassement, relatively young. Team Captains (25), Hassan (24), and Vetter (24) seem to last for years, as well as Nadine Visser (22), both the pentathlon and decathlon as on the 100 meter hurdles seventh was.
“We are a big part of this team a little further, but ultimately we want that we are constantly this kind of success. Behind the current top there is luckily a new generation of talented athletes. We are on the right road.”
Fighting spirit gave according to Schippers a decisive factor in world cup profit 200 metres
It is striking that the Dutch women in London a lot better than the men. No single man knew the top eight. “The trend is that Dutch women are more successful than men, you can also see in other sports,” says Roskam.
“That you saw in the medals at the Olympics last year in Rio de Janeiro. There is a reason for that. All Over the world is vrouwensport namely, slightly less wide, while the Netherlands has a long tradition with vrouwensport.”
“We also have good men, but Menno Vloon (pole-vaulting, ed.) and Thijmen Kupers (800 meters, red.) were injured in this world cup. There is also nice talent, but it is a challenge to in the future also in the men’s medals to conquer.”
Vetter goes after world cup-bronze a lot more than 1 beer.
