Ice rink Leidseplein this year not by
The traditional ice rink on the Leidseplein in Amsterdam this year. There is no space for the job because the square is decorated.
That says operator Frans Stuy in the Telegraph. There was due to him still being sought for an alternate location, but that didn’t work out. He tried the ice-skating too close to the Central Station or Nieuwmarkt.
“But then it says the district can’t. I understand nothing of. What I try, everything’s locked. The district feels like a large concrete block.”
Stuy is disappointed that there is no alternative location is found. “It feels like injustice. For me, it’s not fun, but also for my people.”
The district wants no ice rink on the water as the “protected cityscape”. Around the Nieuwmarkt is the opposition of local residents. “We want to be in the Centre rather less than more events. We are also becoming more rigorous in what we allow.”
