Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has not yet with his club Schalke 04 spoke about a possible renewal of his expiring contract. The 33-year-old striker wants to move in the next few weeks to concentrate fully on his fitness.
Huntelaar hit in October, injured his knee and is now in the final phase of his recovery. Through his months-long absence, he has this season still only a few minutes for Schalke.
“I now want to completely focus on my comeback and in the last months of the season still of value to the team,” said Huntelaar on the website of his management Soccervision.
“Then we need to go and talk about my contract, but that, for me, has now completely not a priority.”
The 76-fold Orange-international, who in recent years was repeatedly linked to a return to Ajax, plays since 2010 for Schalke. He scored for the ‘Königsblauen’ 124 times in 226 matches.
Earlier, it was Huntelaar in addition to Ajax for PSV, De Graafschap, AGOVV Apeldoorn, sc Heerenveen, Real Madrid and AC Milan.
Schalke has so far been a very difficult season in the Bundesliga. The club is 22 points out of nineteen duels only twelfth.
“That is frustrating, especially if you are injured, need to watch,” said Huntelaar. “We are currently a little bit in no man’s land. The differences are still small enough to be able to climb in the rankings, but we should also watch out for the clubs under us.”
Schalke take the Saturday in the twentieth round home at 18.30 hours on against Hertha BSC. The team from Berlin is the current number six of Germany.
