Hundreds of thousands of farmers on to the streets in Mumbai

Hundreds of thousands of protesters have on Wednesday a protest march held in the Indian city of Mumbai.

The demonstrators were mainly farmers from the province of Maharashtra, with orange flags in the street would have better opportunities for higher education, and conversion to requirements.

By the five kilometer long protest march had about four hundred schools Wednesday, the doors close. According to the police, I did the demonstration proceed peacefully. The organizers of the protest claim that two million people participated. The police keep it at about three hundred thousand.


The protesters belong to the Maratha caste, a former krijgersvolk that now, especially in the agriculture works and the poor. They are demanding with their demonstration also for their population a guaranteed number of conversion, and admissions to universities. Such quotas are for lower castes and other disadvantaged groups, but not for the Maratha’s.
